Current | Direct Current | DC Current

" rate of flow of electrons "

Direction:

Conventional Current Direction Vs Electron Flow Direction

Representation & Unit:

I = dq / dt

1 Ampere (A) = 1 Coulomb / Sec

Explanation:

Measure:

Remember: Series Measurement

Step 1: Multimeter Knob in dc mA.

Step 2: Black Probe to resistor end.

Step 3: Red Probe to Battery's Positive Terminal.

Note: You can hold the terminals with bear hands. It will not give you any kind of electric shock.

Positive Current: Current direction is from red to black probe.

Negative Current: Current direction is from black to red probe.

Zero Current: Two reasons -

a) Circuit is discontinuous.

b) Current is very very small and multimeter is not able to measure it.

Experiments:

  1. Measure the positive and negative current from any battery with multimeter.

Note: Use any resistance. If zero current change the resistance or battery and try again.

Current Effect & Uses:

Heating Effect: Flow of electric current through things generates heat.

Use - Electric Room Heater, Electric Oven, Electric Fire, ...

Magnetic Effect: Flow of electric current through things generate magnetic field.

Use - Electric Generators, Electric Motors, Relays, Speakers, ...
